JASPER ARCHITECTS

This redesign of a former department store, located at a prominent site in Wedding, Berlin, is Jasper Architects' entry for a 2023 invitational competition. The project won 1st prize in the public vote, and took home 3rd by the architectural jury. Originally an inward-facing structure, the aim is to transform this department store into an open, public space by weaving the building into the urban fabric. Public pathways connect a series of boxes that house spaces for gathering and exhibition, and a rooftop terrace provides views onto the surrounding area with public access. Inside, the building contains offices, housing, and retail space.
